Pedagogy at MBS

campus mbs montpellier

At MBS School of Business, we believe that learning becomes truly meaningful when it is shared. Our pedagogical signature, “Learning by and with others®,” reflects this conviction: we grow by exchanging, collaborating, and enriching ourselves with the experiences of others.

Our ambition is to support every student in developing both human and professional skills, enabling them to become engaged individuals who can adapt, innovate, and address the challenges of tomorrow’s world.

This unique approach shapes every aspect of the student journey—classes, campus life, professional and associative experiences, and personal development—to offer everyone a rich, collaborative, and meaningful educational path.

Our pedagogical signature, ‘Learning by and with others®

It is structured around three core skill areas: Working on oneself, Building through otherness, and Collaborating to transform.

Working on oneself — Personal development at the heart of learning

The first pillar of our approach, entitled “LEARN” positions personal development and self‑awareness as the essential foundation.

It provides students with the resources and techniques they need to continue developing these skills over time.

Collective intelligence workshop

Our students learn to better understand themselves, identify their talents, and become aware of both their strengths and their areas for improvement, thanks to a wide range of resources made available to them.

They develop key skills such as self‑confidence, autonomy, self‑directed learning, intellectual curiosity, and digital and information literacy. This is also a time for constructive self‑reflection, which prepares them for the mental agility required in their future professional lives.

  • Integration programs
  • Turn On The Light workshops led by the Learning Center
  • Life coaching
  • Individual support for building one’s career plan provided by the Career Center
  • Learning expeditions

Building through otherness — Enriching oneself through the experience and knowledge of others within an inclusive approach

The second pillar, “WITH OTHERS”, is built on discovering others in all their diversity, being exposed to difference, and engaging with real‑world contexts.

It involves experiencing otherness, openness, and inclusion in all their dimensions.

Field trip behind the scenes of the FISE as part of a Marketing course

Our students practice active listening, attentiveness, and collaboration during key moments of the curriculum and through their interactions with the professors, partners, and experts they meet.

They develop key skills such as empathy, emotional intelligence, tolerance for uncertainty, anticipation and adaptability, as well as resilience—the ability to bounce back and grow from challenges. These relational qualities are both valuable and essential, in the professional world as well as in society at large.

  • Internships and work‑study programs
  • Mandatory international study periods
  • Specialization courses
  • Research methodology courses
  • Alumni network
  • Pedagogical framework and MBS x ChallengeME partnership (peer‑assessment solution)

Collaborating to transform — Co‑creating and innovating together

Finally, the third pillar, “WITH OTHERS”, emphasizes co‑construction, doing things together, and active engagement in order to innovate and develop solutions to complex challenges.

It also involves embracing and accepting the idea of a right to make mistakes as a powerful lever for learning.

Group project work during a Hackathon

Our students learn to work together, make collective decisions, and bring people together by creating connection and shared meaning around a common vision. This requires them to be fully present, take responsibility, and assert their individuality through collaborative projects, interdisciplinary workshops, and experiential learning spaces.

They develop key skills such as critical thinking, creativity, solution‑oriented mindset, influence‑based leadership, and the ability to think systemically and holistically.

  • Hackathons, corporate challenges, and business games
  • Engagement in student associations
  • Flipped classrooms
  • Learning by doing
  • Transformative “Act for Change” pathway

Training all talents to become the professionals of tomorrow goes far beyond transmitting knowledge and technical skills. It is equally essential to empower each student to unlock their potential, engage with the world, and collectively contribute to transforming it in a positive way.

This is what our pedagogical signature makes possible every day, on our campuses in France and around the world.

An enhanced learning experience

The pedagogical approach developed by MBS is continuously and dynamically updated through pedagogical innovation, creative teaching practices, and the use of digital tools.

Innovation serving the learner

Pedagogical innovation at MBS is expressed in particular through gamification—that is, the use of game mechanisms to address technical, operational, managerial, or strategic challenges.

Simulations, business games, and serious games such as Start‑up Week or the SDG Challenge immerse learners in alternative realities, generate emotions, and foster engagement and motivation.

A diverse range of teaching approaches

To address the complexity of today’s environments, MBS multiplies its pedagogical approaches and practices:

  • The flipped classroom structures and connects activities before and during the session, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Learning by doing aims to leverage and enhance students’ professional, personal, associative, and multicultural experiences. Students acquire analytical methods (case method, participation in competitions and corporate challenges) as well as creative and collaborative methods (design thinking, hackathons).
  • Professional testimonials, company visits, and learning expeditions further enrich the hybridization of learning experiences.

A digital and in‑person (‘phygital’) experience

MBS uses a wide range of digital tools that help reshape the boundaries between ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ the classroom, blend academic and professional experiences, and foster greater interactivity:

  • Classrooms are equipped with systems that enable comodal learning, offering synchronous and interactive courses both in person and remotely.
  • Moodle hosts all asynchronous learning materials made available to students before and during class sessions.
  • Collaborative and participatory tools such as Wooclap, Klaxoon, Padlet, and Flipgrid enhance interactivity and feedback in the classroom.
  • COIL – Collaborative Online International Learning – enables students from diverse backgrounds and countries to work together.
  • TestWe makes it possible to design and administer online assessments, whether in class or remotely.

Learners are also trained to use professional applications and platforms (Bloomberg, Microsoft BI, Sphinx, etc.).

For example, the Bloomberg Room replicates a trading floor equipped with Bloomberg terminals. Students gain hands‑on experience with a professional tool used by finance practitioners worldwide, and they can prepare for and take the BMC (Bloomberg Market Concepts), a certification recognized across the financial and stock market sectors.

A dedicated team for pedagogical support: the Learning Center

The Learning Center’s instructional designers ensure the coherence and alignment of pedagogical tools with the needs of both students and faculty:

  • Continuous monitoring of new pedagogical tools and training for MBS Faculty members
  • Support for professors in designing and structuring their courses, introducing pedagogical innovations, and integrating gamification into their teaching.

4Digital Label

MBS School of Business has been awarded the 4DIGITAL label. This label enables schools to ‘gain recognition and highlight their mastery of digital technologies, particularly in support of pedagogy and distance learning, both in France and internationally.’
